The Joule Foundation was formed with the purpose of inspiring and equipping young girls in Africa with the skills for STEAM education and careers. Our academic workshops and programs are designed to address the problems faced in the local communities, by pairing classroom learning with hands-on activities. We aim for our girls to become well-rounded individuals, by also providing them with mentoring and career awareness programs, all at no cost.
The SI unit of energy is the Joule, which is equivalent to kg.m2/s2. We believe that by giving a person (kg) a platform (m2) over time (s2) their energy can be used to transform and change our world for the better. Each individual on this earth has a God-given innate purpose that cannot be created nor destroyed. When we harness that purpose, cultivate it, and channel it for the good of the world, that is when transformation takes place! If we give a person a platform — a chance, in due time, they will find their purpose in the world, and when they use this purpose for good, they can transform the world into a much better place.
T
he Joule Foundation is in the business of changing and shaping lives! The work we do aims at giving young African girls a chance to dream and achieve, well beyond their imaginations.
Research has shown that economic, social, and cultural factors contribute to the poor retention rates of African girls in STEAM. Our goal is to remove these limitations and ensure that young girls who demonstrate high levels of academic aptitude are not prevented from pursuing education and careers in STEAM. We strongly believe the saying that “if you educate a woman, you educate a generation” as women are more likely to encourage their children to pursue higher education.
