  • Women are underrepresented in STEAM education and lack role models in the field
  • Young women represent 7 to 12 % of engineering students in Africa
  • Most girls “self select out of STEAM education because they do not feel they belong and they often carry additional family responsibilities
  • Africa accounts for less than 10% of the world’s internet users with nearly 45% fewer women than men having access the Internet in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • There is an urgent need to close the gender gap in STEM education in Africa
